Legal Counsel

Phoenix Investors is seeking a full-time in-house Legal Counsel to support its growing industrial real estate platform. This role is focused on sophisticated transactional work, with responsibility for overseeing a broad portfolio of matters across acquisitions, financing, leasing, and asset management. The position also includes managing outside counsel in connection with litigation and dispute resolution matters.

The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial and industrial real estate, including representing developers, owners, lenders, or investors in complex transactions. Candidates with at least three (3) years of relevant legal experience are preferred; however, candidates with fewer years of experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong substantive experience in commercial and industrial real estate.

  • Prepare, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial real estate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, leases, loan documents, letters of intent, estoppels, and SNDAs
  • Manage all phases of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financings (acquisition, bridge, construction, and permanent loans), and refinancings
  • Coordinate and execute closings, including working with counterparties, title companies, lenders, and outside counsel
  • Review and analyze title commitments and surveys, and draft and negotiate related objections and endorsements
  • Structure and oversee joint venture arrangements and other investment structures
  • Prepare transfer documents and coordinate state-specific closing and recording requirements
  • Oversee and manage litigation and pre-litigation matters affecting the company, including directing strategy, supervising outside counsel, and coordinating internal stakeholders
  • Assist with lender-side and borrower-side closing deliverables, including closing statements, filing statements, and related documentation
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for transactional communications among internal teams and external parties, including counterparties, lenders, and counsel
  • Perform other related legal and business tasks as needed
  • Is a self-starter with strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills
  • Is capable of managing multiple complex transactions simultaneously from inception through closing
  • Demonstrates sound business judgment and a practical, solutions-oriented approach
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a highly collaborative team
  • Maintains strong attention to detail and organizational discipline
  • Has experience with retail, industrial, office, or data center assets (commercial and industrial experience strongly preferred)
  • Holds a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and is admitted to practice in Wisconsin (or eligible for admission)
