Central Utility Lead Technician

The Central Utility Lead Technician serves as the senior technical resource for the CUP team, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant systems. In this role, you’ll provide hands-on troubleshooting, oversee daily operations, and support maintenance activities to guarantee uninterrupted service to campus tenants.

  • Lead day-to-day CUP operations and coordinate activities among technicians
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and the repair of steam, chilled water, compressed air, and glycol systems
  • Monitor system performance and adjust controls to maintain optimal efficiency
  • Assist in scheduling and executing preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Train and mentor junior technicians on procedures and safety protocols
  • Respond to alarms, outages, and emergencies promptly
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation of plant activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Associate degree or technical certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial technology (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in utility plant or industrial facility operations; leadership experience is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of steam, chilled water, compressed air, and glycol systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other safety regulations
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies as needed
