Phoenix Investors is a national commercial real estate firm based in Milwaukee, WI whose core business is the revitalization of former manufacturing facilities throughout the United States. This strategy leads to positively transforming communities and restarting the economic engine in the communities we serve.

Phoenix’s affiliate companies hold interests in approximately 27 million square feet of industrial, retail, office, and single tenant net-leased properties across 24 states. A 2018 survey conducted by NREI ranked Phoenix Investors as having the 28th largest total industrial real estate portfolio. Today, Phoenix principally specializes in the renovation and repositioning of large, former single tenant industrial facilities throughout the United States that were previously owned by major corporate clients, REITs, or financial institutions.

Kurt is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of entrepreneurial, management and deal making experience. As an early adopter of the Internet, Kurt founded an Internet Service Provider in 1993, which grew to become the second largest access provider in the Midwest. Later this venture was sold and as a new family man, Kurt took the role of Operations Manager at GTE Internetworking – the providers provider of Internet bandwidth.  Customers included the University systems in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and many others.  GTE Internetworking was eventually purchased by Bell Atlantic, then spun off into Genuity which was acquired by Level3 Communications. As a $250+ million annual revenue producer, Kurt’s was the last Genuity business unit to fold into Level3 Operations.

Within affiliates of Phoenix Investors, Kurt has operated in a wide range of capacities including CEO of a telecommunications company, CEO of an internet based entertainment shopping firm, Executive VP of a petroleum distributor and an executive for a publicly traded conglomerate. As CEO of the telecommunications company Kurt helped produce over $20 million in profits in 18 months; as CEO of the shopping firm his marketing strategy produced over 1 million members; as executive VP of the petroleum distributor he successfully managed to solve one of the most complicated debtor cases faced by M&I bank (Midwest); and as an executive of a publicly traded firm Kurt helped navigate the collapse of credit markets and subsequent great recession, bringing orderly closure to a wide range of challenges and assets.

As Senior Vice President, Acquisitions and Leasing Kurt has participated in slightly less then 7,000,000 SF of Industrial acquisitions and leasing. His extensive and diverse professional experience allows him to empathetically ‘see’ the deal from the client or seller’s side; to understand the challenges internal champions/managers face; and to use a variety of creative approaches to create a winning deal for all involved.

Kurt received a B.A. of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa.
